Stephen Biddle is Professor of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, and Adjunct Senior Fellow for Defense Policy at the Council on Foreign Relations. His research focuses on U.S. defense policy, international security, the conduct of war, military technology, and the analysis of recent combat operations. He has served on the Defense Policy Board, and as a member of multiple theater assessment and analysis teams in Iraq and Afghanistan. He lectures regularly at the U.S. Army War College and other military schools, and has presented testimony before congressional committees on issues relating to the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria; force planning; conventional net assessment; and European arms control. He has held teaching and research positions at the Council on Foreign Relations, George Washington University, the U.S. Army War College, the University of North Carolina, and the Institute for Defense Analyses.
