Stephanie Gorton wrote "The Icon and the Idealist: Margaret Sanger, Mary Ware Dennett, and the Rivalry that Brought Birth Control to America" (2024), which won the ASJA Award for Biography/History, was a finalist for the Plutarch Award for biography, and was longlisted for the Brooklyn Public Library Book Prize. Her first book, "Citizen Reporters: S. S. McClure, Ida Tarbell, and the Magazine that Rewrote America" (2020), was a finalist for the Sperber Prize for journalism biography. She has written for The New Yorker, Smithsonian, and Boston Globe, among other publications, and been featured on radio shows including On Point and Slate's Political Gabfest. Lebanese-American by birth, Gorton lives in Providence, Rhode Island.
