Shirley Johnson is a Sensory Inclusive Educator, Neurodevelopment Coach, founder of Maximise Child Development and Learning Centre in Phuket, Thailand, and the author of Cancer, I Forgive You.

Her work combines personal experience, education and advocacy. After her son Max was diagnosed with an aggressive childhood brain tumour at just eighteen months old, Shirley spent years navigating surgeries, chemotherapy, rehabilitation, international medical treatments and developmental therapies. Along the way, she immersed herself in learning about neurodevelopment, sensory processing, communication, inclusion and play-based learning.

In 2023, unable to find the educational support her son needed, Shirley founded Maximise Child Development and Learning Centre. What began as a small playroom supporting one child has grown into a thriving developmental learning centre serving local and international families in Phuket.

Today, Shirley works alongside educators, therapists and families to help children of all abilities maximise their potential through adaptive learning, sensory-rich activities and meaningful developmental support.

Her first book, Cancer, I Forgive You, chronicles her family's journey through childhood cancer, resilience and hope. Her second book, 100 Sensory Games by Maximise, is inspired by the hundreds of play-based activities she developed and refined through her work with children and through learning from her greatest teacher, her son Max.

When she is not writing, teaching or creating new sensory games, Shirley enjoys spending time with her children, exploring new ideas, and celebrating life's small victories one day at a time.
