In the 1980s Sheila Claydon wrote a number of romances under the pseudonym Anne Beverley. Then life got in the way and before she knew it she had turned her back on the characters who were begging to be liberated from her imagination. Now she is back to writing fiction again and, considerably older and no longer shy, she writes under her own name. She loves to hear from readers and can be contacted at http://sheilaclaydonwriter.com where her books are listed and where she also writes an occasional blog. Her motto is this quote by the late Ray Bradbury: 'First, find out what your hero wants. Then just follow him.'
She starts with plots, chapter outlines, characterisation; she knows all the rules and faithfully follows them each time she starts to write a new story. Then the hero takes over and she follows him instead...' Born and educated on the south coast of England, Sheila has gradually moved northwards across the UK. At present she and her husband live on the northwest coast of England on a stunning stretch of unspoiled coastline where she finds walking a constant source of inspiration as well as a counterweight to the sedentary life of a writer. Interspersed with her writing is a long and varied career in health, education and employment, which mostly involved working to improve standards and opportunities for children, people with disabilities, and older people. She likes to think she is a better writer because of those experiences, and also admits to basing some of her heavily disguised characters on people she has worked with in the past. As a writer she has tutored creative writing groups and organized and run workshops. She is also a published prize-winning poet whose work can be found in several anthologies. Prior to moving north she also ran workshops for the UK's 'Poetry in Schools' programme, running 3-day events with pupils of all ages right across the educational spectrum. Although family remains central to her life, she still finds the time to read, to write, and to travel. Many of the places she has visited feature in her books. Her fans say reading them is like buying a ticket to romance.
