Shane Gerzon is a dedicated and passionate coach who loves sports and real-world education. As the father of seven talented student-athletes (1999-2014) from two marriages, he appreciates the complex challenges and multiple rewards of encouraging a vibrant sporting family that values teamwork and decency. Professionally, Shane left a rewarding decade of teaching in the United States to pursue a new “career” in the gambling sector. This led to a few of his well documented mistakes in the search for love and money. He has since combined his athletic and coaching background to create a close-knit family, community and mentorship through sports. Shane’s scholarly experience includes a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Humboldt State University and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from the University of Northern Colorado. He is seeking a third degree in Addictions and Rehabilitation at Reeves College, illustrating a commitment to personal growth and supporting others. Currently residing in southwest Calgary, Alberta, Shane is considering moving back to the United States because of future career dreams in sports, rehabilitation, and politics. Outside of athletics, his interests include world affairs and fostering unity and civility among a wide spectrum of people. He enjoys spending time celebrating music, movement, food, and family. Deep down, the author is a deeply feeling person with an exterior that sometimes masks it. He is passionate about bringing up happy and healthy kids the world over, teaching them a discipline and joy he felt was absent in his childhood. Coaching for him is all about enabling the coming generation of sportspersons so that they can improve not only their skill but also their character.
