ABOUT THE AUTHOR Sergey Maidukov is a Ukrainian author based in Kyiv, with a prolific career spanning over 30 years and encompassing dozens of books across genres such as crime, adventure, historical fiction, and memoir. His works reflect a deep engagement with the political, cultural, and historical currents shaping Ukraine and the post-Soviet space. In 2014, following the publication of a series of articles critical of Vladimir Putin in American Thinker, he faced political persecution in the Russian-occupied city of Donetsk. This compelled him to flee to Kyiv, where he rebuilt his career, mastering the art of sustaining himself exclusively through writing. During Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Maidukov authored two books in English for the U.S. publisher Rowman & Littlefield. Both received strong praise from independent reviewers. Life on the Run: One Family’s Search for Peace in War-torn Ukraine was commended by post-Soviet security expert Marcel Van Herpen and received glowing reviews in Kirkus and Choice. His second book, Deadly Bonds, an intense and deeply personal account of five harrowing years of forced servitude to a Ukrainian Mafia leader, was highly praised by historian and author Mark Galeotti, Ph.D., for its raw honesty and gripping narrative. In addition to my book projects, Maidukov contributes op-eds to prominent Western media outlets, including Newsweek, The Guardian, National Review, The Boston Globe, and The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. His articles have also appeared in The Globe & Mail (Canada) and Eureka Street (Australia). Through his journalism, he offers unique insights into Ukraine’s political, social, and cultural landscape while building visibility for his books in Western markets.
