Dr. Sean Salai is a pastoral theologian specializing in the faith-based use of digital media, holding a D.Min in digital media evangelization from The Catholic University of America (May 2021). He also holds an M.Div from Santa Clara University, an M.A. in Applied Philosophy from Loyola University Chicago, and a B.A. in History from Wabash College, which he attended on a journalism scholarship from the Indianapolis Star. Dr. Salai is the culture reporter on the National desk at The Washington Times, where he previously interned and clerked, and is a trained Ignatian spiritual director who spent 16 years in the Jesuit order (Society of Jesus). He served for several years as special contributor at America Media and is the author of several popular Catholic books as well as peer-reviewed academic articles in philosophy and theology. His other experience includes six years of teaching in Catholic high schools and serving as a metro desk newspaper reporter at the Boca Raton News. He has taught, written, and ministered at every level of Catholic life from kindergarten and parishes to universities. He has experience as a student publications moderator. Dr. Salai’s writing has appeared in America, First Things, National Catholic Reporter, Catholic World Report, Busted Halo, Crisis Magazine, The Washington Times, Civil War Book Review, Homiletic & Pastoral Review, the Magis Spirituality Center's Spiritual Exercises Blog, and other publications. He was a contributing editor to "American Conservatism: An Encyclopedia" (2006) and "Choosing the Right College" (2005), two reference works from the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI). Among other projects, he authored the DVD booklet liner notes for Paolo Dy's "Ignatius of Loyola" (2016) film from Ignatius Press. As an undergraduate newsmagazine editor, he won several Indiana Collegiate Press Association (ICPA) awards and a Wesley Pruden Investigative Journalism Award from the Leadership Institute in 2001. He won two scholarships for outstanding collegiate journalism from the Washington DC-based American Alternative Foundation in 2001 and 2002. He’s a graduate of the Institute on Political Journalism at Georgetown University, the Leadership Institute's Student Publications School in Virginia, the Collegiate Network Foreign Correspondent Course in Prague, and several other journalism programs. His college internship experience included Policy Review magazine at the Heritage Foundation.
