Sean Prophet is the author of My Cult Your Cult (Amika Press, 2025), part insider case study and part personal reckoning. Born into the Church Universal and Triumphant—a millenarian cult founded by his father, Mark Prophet, and later led by his mother, Elizabeth Clare Prophet—he rose to the position of vice president during its most extreme period in 1989–1990, when thousands of members built underground bomb shelters to survive a predicted Soviet nuclear strike. After leaving the cult, he began the long process of confronting his complicity and emerging as one of its sharpest critics. Prophet studied electrical engineering and political science at Northwestern University before building a 25-year career as a television editor and colorist in documentary and nonfiction television. He is the founder of Black Sun Journal, one of the earliest post-9/11 atheist blogs, and has hosted two podcasts: National Progressive Talk Radio (2012–2013) and The Radical Secular (2020–2022). He lives in Los Angeles and writes about cult dynamics, ethics, and the rise of global authoritarianism on his Substack, ExoProphet: Notes from the Algorithmic Age. When he's not writing, he rides a BMW R 1250 GS.
