Sara grew up in libraries. They were her second home, the place where she discovered imagination, safety and the feeling that stories could open doors to new worlds. Those early years shaped her deeply and planted a belief she still carries: books connect us and inspire us to become better versions of ourselves. Becoming a first-time mother brought her back to that truth. She stepped into early years sessions at her local council and into parents groups where she finally met others navigating the same mix of joy, exhaustion and constant change. Those programs became more than activities. They offered rhythm, community and a sense of not doing everything alone. They reminded her that raising a child isn’t meant to happen in isolation. She also enrolled her son in the 1000 Books Before School program, not as a milestone to chase but as a simple way to build daily moments of connection. Now, at two years old and having read just over 800 books together, she can already see how those shared stories have sparked his love for reading and imagination. Not every family has access to this kind of support, even within the same neighbourhood. Being part of Village Library is Sara’s way of helping to close that gap. Through stories like Ali, Kai and Max at the Playground, she hopes to offer parents and caregivers a community where belonging feels natural and where children grow their sense of kindness, curiosity and connection through books, friendship and play.
