Born in Oklahoma in 1983, Shane Smith spent his formative years in the Sooner State, raised by his grandfather until his passing in 1992. Those early years in Oklahoma laid the foundation for the man he would become—rooted in hard work, family values, and the kind of grit that only comes from growing up in America's heartland. After losing his grandfather, Shane made the move to California, where he was raised in the small town of Atascadero. The contrast between his Oklahoma roots and California living gave him a unique perspective on two very different ways of American life, shaping his understanding of people from all walks of life. When September 11th, 2001, changed our country forever, Shane didn't hesitate to answer the call. He enlisted in the Marine Corps, driven by a deep sense of duty and love for his country. His service took him to Iraq, where he completed a combat tour and participated in Operation Vigilant Resolve—an experience that tested his limits and forged bonds that would last a lifetime. Today, Shane has come full circle, back home in Oklahoma where he plans to stay for good. The journey from Oklahoma boy to California teen to Marine Corps veteran has given him a story worth telling, and he brings that authentic American experience to everything he writes. His writing comes from a place of real experience—from small towns to combat zones—and speaks to readers who appreciate stories told by someone who's actually lived them.
