My daughter has no unusual talent for sounding out words. But at age 6 she had read more and was reading faster than the average high school senior—5 million words and 350 words per minute.

My 4 year old daughter and I pioneered engaged aided reading (EAR). I read to her every day and researched cognitive development while she slept. I put in well over 2,000 hours before she suddenly flew. Two years and 5 million words later she was reading faster than I do, at age 6. After this realization I put in another 1,500 hours in one year to figure out how, and how to scale this success. I must succeed in this because I see what it's done for my daughter.

Sara.ai Books was founded to help other children find similar success. I’m going to change the way kids learn to read, and that in turn is going to change the world.

Over 50% of adults in the United State score at Level 2 or lower in the NCES, PIAAC Literacy Scale. The principal cause is their prolonged childhood struggle with reading. Remedial instruction often does little to undo the damage which struggle causes. When independence in the process of learning to read is believed necessary and even celebrated we don’t see the struggle for what it is—floundering.

Sara turns floundering readers into fledged readers through immersion in great literature. Sara is first and foremost about fluent progression through the text, empowering fledged readers to quickly climb and easily soar rather than struggle against the unnatural muck of phonemes.

Sara helps readers fledge with two simple tools; engaged aided reading and real-time cognitive analytics. First, readers learn a singular and simple practice that will, like the beat of a wing, effectively propel them forward and higher. Sara is the breezy substance they press against with each beat. Second, Sara provides the fledgling respite to soar by immersing the reader in a familiar yet substantive stream words. Real-time analytic modulation of the stream keeps the reader aloft.
