Roger W. Thompson has spent a lifetime chasing trout and waves, pausing occasionally for an entrepreneurial career spanning business, entertainment, and adventure, including co-founding the iconic Skate Street Skate Park.

The pursuit began early. He first caught fish with worms and lures as a boy. After his world fell apart, he switched to fly fishing—to search for rivers that might make sense of things, and to ensure, for a time, not catching many fish.

Thompson is the author of the critically acclaimed memoir My Best Friend’s Funeral and the spiritual travelogue We Stood Upon Stars. He’s never been afraid to cast into complicated waters—joy, grief, memory—earning him the nicknames “River Bishop” and “The Sage of the West”.

Roger lives in his hometown of Ventura, California, with his family, herding dogs, and more fly rods and surfboards than any reasonable person needs. He writes most days in coffee shops, taco shops, and along the surf breaks he calls his home waters.

He also makes chairs.
