Robert Nichols – Driving Freedom, One RV Park at a Time

Hello there, I’m Robert Nichols, a 40-year-old full-time RVer, former accountant, and now the author of this curated guide that was born not just from years of travel, but from necessity, transformation, and a love for the road.

Let me take you back to 2012. I was sitting in a beige cubicle under fluorescent lights, crunching numbers for a corporate firm that barely remembered my name. Then one day, without warning, I was let go. Job gone. Stability gone. The usual next step might have been panic, but something else clicked in me. I didn’t want another job just like the one I lost. I wanted something different. I wanted freedom.

So, I sold what I didn’t need, bought a secondhand RV, and hit the road.
What began as a bold experiment quickly evolved into a way of life. I zigzagged across the country, from the rocky coastlines of Oregon to the sun-drenched swamps of Florida, always chasing good weather, kind people, and new experiences. Initially, I was trying to figure out how to survive on a tight budget. But along the way, I discovered something that changed everything: community.

RV parks, campgrounds, and roadside havens weren’t just places to park—they were lifelines. They were where stories were exchanged over picnic tables, and strangers became lifelong friends. But not all parks are created equal. Some were little gems tucked away in scenic corners. Others… well, let’s say they weren’t worth a second visit.

I started keeping notes. Detailed ones. About everything from the reliability of hookups to whether the showers had actual hot water. Were the staff friendly? Was it pet-friendly? Could I fit my rig comfortably? Did it feel safe at night? Over time, my little logbook filled with hundreds of names, reviews, and personal impressions. It became my RV bible.

And now, it’s become this book.

I realized there are thousands of RV guides out there—but most of them are written like generic directories, crammed with data but no soul. What I wanted to create was something different: a personally curated guide, crafted not just with logistics but with experience.

This isn’t just a listing of RV parks. It’s a journey through years of trial and error, wins and setbacks, magical sunsets, and unexpected repairs in the middle of nowhere. It’s about where I stayed, what I honestly thought, and what I’d recommend to someone I care about who’s about to hit the road.

If you’re a full-timer, a weekend warrior, or even just dreaming of RV life from your apartment window, this book was made for you. I wrote it with a traveler’s heart and an accountant’s precision. You’ll find honest insights, helpful tips, and real stories—no fluff, no paid promotions, just the truth from a guy who’s been there, parked that.

When I’m not behind the wheel or researching the next stay, I’m usually by a campfire with my dog, scribbling in a notebook, or sharing my travels on my blog. I believe in slow mornings, strong coffee, and that the best kind of wealth is time spent exploring with people you love.

This book is not just about RV parks—it’s about freedom, simplicity, and making the most of what you have. I hope it helps you avoid the bad stops, discover some hidden gems, and fall even deeper in love with life on the open road.
