Riki Springwell has spent many years living in the northernmost reaches of Maine and other remote places, where preparedness isn't a hobby but a way of life. A certified Wilderness First Responder with extensive training in emergency management, Riki has weathered countless blizzards, ice storms, and extended power outages while maintaining her small homestead near the Canadian border. Riki Springwell is understandably a pseudonym to protect her way of life. As a community preparedness coordinator, she has developed regional emergency response programs, taught practical survival skills to hundreds of students, and served as a shelter manager during numerous regional disasters. Her approach to preparedness combines traditional homesteading knowledge passed down through generations of women in her family with modern scientific understanding and a healthy dose of practical wisdom. When not writing or teaching, Riki tends her extensive gardens, preserves food using methods both ancient and modern, and maintains a mutual aid network with neighbors across three counties. Her preparedness philosophy emphasizes community resilience, practical skill development, and the too-often overlooked contributions of women to survival throughout history. Riki shares her home with an ancient shotgun named Mabel, an opinionated Maine Coon cat also named Mabel, and enough home-canned goods to weather any apocalypse in style and comfort.
