Richard Gwyn grew up in Mid Wales. He studied anthropology at the London School of Economics but dropped out after two years to spend the decade of the 1980s living precariously in Greece, France and Spain. He started out as a poet, but it was his first novel, The Colour of a Dog Running Away (2005), set in Barcelona, that brought him an international readership. His other books include Deep Hanging Out (2007), The Vagabond’s Breakfast (which won a Wales Book of the Year Award in 2012) and The Blue Tent (2019). He has travelled widely in South America and has translated poetry and short fiction by many Latin American writers, especially from Argentina and Colombia. His translations include A Complicated Mammal by Joaquín O. Giannuzzi (2012), The Spaces Between by Jorge Fondebrider (2013) and Impossible Loves, by Dario Jaramillo (2019). The Other Tiger, a major dual-text anthology of contemporary Latin American poetry, containing work by nearly 100 poets, was published by Seren in 2016. Between 2007-13 he reviewed fiction for The Independent. He is the author of Ricardo Blanco’s Blog at https://richardgwyn.me/
