I was born on 1st November 1950 in post-war Birmingham, England. My early years were typical of boys like me: simple schooling, muddy football pitches, and endless adventures outdoors. Music was the lifeblood of our home. My mum was always singing in the kitchen, radio humming as she prepared meals. My dad, a dedicated day-jobber and semi-pro saxophonist, played nights on the local big band circuit. Their love and support became the true foundation of my life and still are, even now that I’ve outlived them. In the winter of 1969, I left Birmingham for London, chasing a dream of working in the music business. I’m still chasing it but what a journey it’s been. Over five decades as a recording engineer, I’ve been privileged to work with artists I grew up idolising: Bob Marley, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, the London Symphony Orchestra… the list goes on. I’ve recorded in studios across London, Los Angeles, and far beyond, bearing witness to some of the most iconic musical moments of the 20th century. My memoir One, Two, Three, Four tells the story from a teenage dreamer to a life spent behind the mixing desk with legends. I still can’t quite believe I’ve been doing this for over fifty years. Honestly, I feel like I’m just getting started.
