As a wildlife biologist for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department for three decades, I surveyed small mammals, deer, elk, pronghorn, and moose from a four-wheel drive pickup, snowmobile, small planes and helicopters. I traversed hundreds of miles of caves and abandoned mines counting bats, and was the Field Project Leader for reintroduction of the endangered black-footed ferret in south-central Wyoming. I traveled the Wyoming backcountry extensively, often accompanied by my Labrador retriever, while big game hunting and backpacking in the mountains. I had the good fortune to spend a lot of time in the places I write about in my outdoor mysteries, Disappearance Creek and Outlaw Creek, including the Wind River Mountains, Hole-in-the-Wall Valley, Brown's Park, and the Copper Mountains. I have also traveled widely in Central America, Mexico, South America, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the western U.S. As a wildlife biologist I authored a number of technical wildlife publications on bats, black-footed ferrets, and birds. I have also written wildlife-related articles for several outdoor magazines. Arizona publisher, Treble Heart Books, published my first outdoor mystery book, Disappearance Creek, in 2009. MyPublisher published my photo essay book, River of Life, Four Seasons along Arizona's Upper Rio San Pedro, in 2012. Also in 2012, Amazon published Outlaw Creek. Since retiring from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, I have lived near the San Pedro River in the high Chichuahuan desert a few miles from Sierra Vista, Arizona. I spend my time writing, traveling, and photographing the wildlife and magnificent landscapes of Arizona and the western U.S. Along with two friends, I backpacked the 820-mile National Scenic Arizona Trail from Mexico to Utah in 2010.
