While trying to protect and recruit more players and civilians from another settlement, Mason has fallen into a mortal dungeon—The Great Devourer's Lair. It wasn't meant to be found so soon. It was designed for a later stage in the game when players would have more power.

Brothers Blake and Mason have survived the 'system's' post-apocalyptic tutorial. They killed and cajoled their way into 'patronage' of a forest settlement, made useful (and beautiful) new allies, and for the moment things look good. A little too good. But for how long?

Mason survived the Devourer's lair, got a prestige class, then he and the other players fought off a murderous wave of orc raiders. But now his brother Blake is trapped in a deadly game in the orc's fortress, and for the first time in his life, Mason can't save him.
