Phil Swann is the author of The Sideman Mysteries, a Trip Callaway Gig (Cold War Copa, Mekong Delta Blues, Tinsel Town Tango, and Ships & Salsa). Other books by Swann include the thrillers The Song of Eleusis and The Mozart Conspiracy. The Mozart Conspiracy has achieved international success and is also published in Italian under the title, Il Codice Amadeus. Swann's career in the entertainment industry has spanned more than 40-years as a composer, author, playwright, performer, and producer. As a songwriter, Swann's songs have been used in countless TV shows, movies, and have been recorded by numerous recording artists including: Clay Aiken, Lee Ann Womack, Josh Strickland, Blake Shelton, Neal McCoy, Rodney Atkins, Eamonn McCrystal and Lee Greenwood, to name only a few. For the theatre, Swann’s credits include: • The hit Off-Broadway musical, Play It Cool, Outer Critics Circle nominee for best new musical • The People vs. Friar Laurence, the Man Who Killed Romeo and Juliet, nominated for three Jeffrey Joseph Awards including Best New Musical (NOTE: The People vs. Friar Laurence is now published by Samuel French and was remounted in 2016 by The Second City and Steppenwolf theatre) • DeLEARious, Garland Award winner for Best New Score • In A Booth at Chasen's • Trombone • Shakespeare's Greatest Hits • It Had To Be You His latest work for the theatre, Neil Simon's Musical Fools (also published by Samuel French), is a musical farce co-authored by Phil Swann, Ron West and Neil Simon. A former staff songwriter and producer for DreamWorks, Swann's production credits include: Helen Slater, Kelly Macleod, The Good Mad, The Sweet Potatoes, Danielle Kuri, Roberta Duchak, Dave Aguallo and Dan Nahmod. Solo projects by Swann include the critically acclaimed jazz recording, Stale Scotch and Cheap Cigars, and the pop EP, Age of Opportunity. Phil Swann has been a favorite speaker at organizations throughout the United States and Canada. His creative workshops have been embraced by The Songwriters Guild of America, the Nashville Songwriters Association, BMI, ASCAP, as well as UCLA and the Los Angeles College of Music where Swann has taught on the art and craft of writing. Originally from Milton, West Virginia, Swann is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. He now makes his home in Los Angeles, California.
