Peter Pannke, a singer, dreamer and storyteller born in Germany, lived for many years in India, Pakistan, Turkey, Mali and Ethiopia before settling down in Berlin. He is a well-known broadcaster with thousands of music features and radio plays to his credit, produced 82 world music CDs and is the bandleader of "Troubadours United" (www.troubadours-united.com). Film maker Elfi Mikesch, winner of the German Camera Award in 2007, portraid him in the 1-hour documentary "The Road of the Troubadours" (ZDF/ARTE 2002). In 2009 Peter Pannke received the Rabindranath Tagore-Award, in 2010 he was selected as writer-in-residence at the Alfred Döblin-House, donated by Günter Grass to the Berlin Cultural Senate, in Wewelsflet. In 2023/4 he was awarded a senior research fellowship by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). "I am sniffing the footprints of all those lost, pale-faced lovers, hobos, bums & drifters, mad hatters, minstrels, malangs & majubs, derwishes & qalandars, griots, jesters & bauls who passed on this road before me," Pannke says about himself. "When i smell their perfume i wag my tail and howl. I am a dog running up and down the road of the troubadours."
