Paul W. Riley is a retired Lieutenant Colonel with 24 years of Army service, following in the footsteps of his father's 31-year military career. From the deserts of Kuwait during Desert Storm to leadership roles across multiple deployments, Paul has witnessed firsthand both the profound and absurd realities of military life. Inducted into the University of Rhode Island ROTC Hall of Fame, Paul combines authentic military experience with a storyteller's gift for revealing the human side of service—the spectacular mistakes, unexpected moments of clarity, and the surreal experiences that define a life in uniform. His debut memoir, From Hero to Zero: Three Generations of Military Service and Spectacular Mistakes, captures the unvarnished truth of military service through three generations of the Riley family. The founder of Pink Elephant Publishing LLC—named after his memorable hallucination of a pink elephant during the Battle of Norfolk—Paul is committed to sharing stories that honor service members while entertaining and educating civilian audiences about the reality of military life. When not writing, Paul lives in Clifton, Virginia, where he continues to serve the veteran community and occasionally reflects on how he managed to accidentally declare war on a German soldier during a NATO exercise.
