I am a shamanic practitioner, teacher and writer, and a psychotherapist of some forty years' experience. In 2007, with my partner Cat Anderson, I founded the Three Ravens College of Therapeutic Shamanism and Core Animism. My intention with the Therapeutic Shamanism series is to try and write books that build on each other and form a modern-day shamanic apprenticeship. The first three are The Shamanic Journey, Rewilding Yourself and Finding Your Deep Soul.

I grew up in the north of England, and went to Lancaster University, where I studied philosophy and social anthropology, mostly tribal (shamanic) cultures. I set up in private practice as a complementary medical practitioner and psychotherapist in the early 1980s, and for many years I was also a psychotherapy tutor, trainer and supervisor. I am now retired from one-to-one work.

I had several intense shamanic experiences in my early life, although at the time I did not know what to call them. I first consciously came across shamanism in my twenties, but the lack of ethics and the abuse of power I saw in the workshops disturbed me, so I gave up pursuing it. In my thirties a crisis took me apart and nearly killed me, and during the slow healing that followed, shamanism came back into my life. In my early forties my Guides started nagging me to teach it, and it took another near-death experience before I stopped being the reluctant teacher.

These days I lead a quiet life in North Wales with my partner and our four cats. I spend most of my days writing, walking on the beach or in the hills, watching clouds and sunsets, gardening, cooking, reading, talking to my Guides, or doing nothing in particular.
