Patsy Redden grew up in north-central Kansas in the rural Alton and Woodston communities. Her life experiences have spanned from living without electricity or indoor plumbing to the age of computers and learning to use modern technology. After graduating from Woodston High School, Patsy attended Kansas State University and graduated with a degree in Home Economics Education and English. She taught Home Economics in Parsons, Kansas, for two years before becoming an Extension Home Economist in McPherson County for a year. Marriage to Galen Redden brought Patsy back to farm life. The couple made their home in the Gypsum, Kansas area and raised their four children, Heidi, Trevor, Arlen, and Elina. For 19 years Patsy home-schooled her children. Now, Galen and Patsy have 12 grandchildren. Since Patsy enjoys writing, she decided to start writing a daily journal letter about her family, sending it once a week to relatives and friends. This practice has been going on for about 31 years. Her family often jokes about permission to be included in the journal. “Don’t put that in your journal,” someone will protest. Or to the other extreme, somebody will insist, “This should make the journal letter!” In 2011 Patsy finished writing and publishing a biography of her g-g-grandfather, Russell Scott Osborn. The book involved researching and interviewing people for information and stories about this remarkable ancestor, who homesteaded in Kansas in the 1870s. In 2018 Patsy published Little Girl Stories on Amazon Kindle Direct about the first ten years of her life, with the desire that it will encourage children to be creative in their own lives and not just rely on technology for fun and entertainment. Now, Patsy has combined a series of journal articles and poems on the theme of storytelling, Journals of a Story Seeker. These reflect how her faith in Jesus Christ affects all aspects of her life and the value of storytelling in sharing life experiences with other people.
