She has been quoted in many national media outlets, including The New York Times, Bloomberg Businessweek, Vox, AARP and Fast Company. She is a licensed attorney and former judge who has written several books on human rights in the workplace. These books are: - Overcoming Age Discrimination in Employment (2016). It is vital that workers over the age of 40 understand their rights and confront age discrimination as soon as possible. Once unemployed, older workers find it almost impossible to find equivalent work. This easy-to-read book provides an overview of age discrimination law and guidance about how to proceed. - Betrayed: The Legalization of Age Discrimination in the Workplace (2014). This ground-breaking book shows that older workers literally are second class citizens under the law of the United States and, as a result, suffer epidemic and unaddressed age discrimination in the workplace. "Well-researched and well written" - excerpt from book review by David M Godfrey, senior atty, The ABA Commission on Law and Aging. - Surviving Bullies, Queen Bees & Psychopaths in the Workplace (2012). This is a best-selling legal guide on workplace bullying and abuse. It helps workers understand concepts such as incivility and workplace bullying, and it helps employers understand the point at which workplace abuse becomes an actionable offense under the law. - Transcend Your Boss: Zen and the Difficult Workplace (2013). Workplace abuse can take a severe emotional and physical toll on the target in an surprisingly short period of time. This book offers a path to regain control over your response to abuse until you can achieve a positive resolution to the problem. Ms. Barnes also wrote two books for CQ Press that are held in libraries around the work, CQ's Desk Reference on American Criminal Justice and CQ's Desk Reference on the American Courts. She edited a three-volume series of books for a scholarly publisher (Garland) called, Domestic Violence: From a Private Matter to a Federal Offense. Ms. Barnes is a consultant to workers and employers and offers training on civility and sexual harassment. She is the editor of a syndicated employment law blog, When the Abuser Goes to Work (http://AbuserGoestoWork.com), and a blog on age discrimination (http://AgeDiscriminationinEmployment.com).
