About the Author Since November 2019, Joel N. Usher has served as the proud pastor of Glidden Baptist Church located in Glidden, Texas. Born in Weimar, Texas, Pastor Usher’s hometown is Columbus, Texas where he graduated in 2001 from Columbus High School. While there he gave his life to Christ as a teenager at New Greater Smith Chapel Church, under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Joseph Hargrove. After graduation, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona and graduated from High-Tech Institute with an Associates Degree in Internet Programming and Solutions Technology. While attending college, he became an Assistant Manager at a large retail store where he learned leadership skills, customer service skills, management techniques, and how to deal with people. At the end of 2005, Joel moved to Austin, Texas. He preached his first sermon under the leadership of Pastor Michael White, and began ministry as an Associate Minister in January 2007. Pastor Usher later moved back to his hometown to give back to his community. Working with CISD, he helped organize the Columbus Youth Center, which later became the Boys & Girls Club of Champion Valley, Columbus. He was its first Director and held the position for many years. In addition, Pastor Usher has served on many community boards such as Columbus Chamber of Commerce, Columbus Community Industrial Development Corporation, Columbus ISD School Board Trustee, Colorado County Black History Scholarship Fund, and numerous steering committees to better the community. In September of 2024, Pastor Joel married April Usher, whom he believes God sent. He is proud that his son, Elijah Malakai Usher, will be attending Texas Lutheran University in August 2025 and will play football there. Please contact Pastor Joel N.
