PJ Piccirillo is the award-winning author of the The Indigo Scarf, Heartwood, and Nunc Stans—A Ferry Tale. PJ has twice won the Appalachian Writers Association Award for Short Fiction. His stories and articles have appeared in journals, magazines, newspapers, and syndicates. He is a literary artist-in-residence for the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. An advocate of northern Appalachia’s under-recognized literature, he has worked to build a name for its writers and a brand for its books by founding the WCoNA Writers Conference of Northern Appalachia® and the Northern Appalachia Review, for which he is the current editor-in-chief. An instructor of English and Humanities at Butler County Community College, PJ holds an M.F.A. from the University of Southern Maine and a B.A. in English from Saint Francis University. Inspired by the timberlands and red brick industrial burgs of Pennsylvania’s Allegheny Plateau where his ancestors settled to work its woods, farms, tanneries, mines and rail sections, Piccirillo’s stories are as recognized for their sensitivity to their characters’ passions as they are for their depictions of conflicted hearts battling demons. PJ is a third-generation community firefighter, an EMT, NASCAR firefighter, township supervisor, winemaker, and Cubmaster. He’s been a factory worker, campground owner, marketing manager, technical writer, and cook. He can be found with his wife and three sons pursuing all things outdoors on the creek-fissured plateau of his native northcentral Pennsylvania.
