He is the author of a collection of bestselling and award-winning wine books, including Bordeaux for which he won the Louis Roederer International Wine Writers Award in 2009. The popular ‘Oz and James Drink to Britain’, with ‘Top Gear’ co-presenter James May – a rollicking caravan adventure around the British Isles exploring beers, cider, whisky, wine and more – won them both and the accompanying book, the International Wine Challenge Personality of the Year Award, the TRIC TV Arts/Documentary Programme of the Year Award and the Gourmand World Cookbook Award for Best Wine Literature. In 2010 Oz was made a Officier de l’Ordre du Mérite Agricole by the French government for services to French agriculture, and he was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Drinks Retailing Awards 2015. Oz was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2020 New Year Honours for services to broadcasting and journalism.
