Nik Kennedy is a tricuspid atresia survivor who has undergone five open-heart surgeries. Born with a serious congenital heart defect, he spent much of his childhood watching television and playing Super Nintendo while occasionally writing his own stories. He discovered his lifelong passion for science fiction through Robert A. Heinlein’s Starship Troopers, which shaped his interest in stories of human survival against overwhelming odds. After high school, Nik worked fighting California wildfires in 2008 and spent several years traveling and working throughout the West Coast. He eventually settled in the Pacific Northwest, where he lives with his family. Nik’s writing journey began in third grade with a short story titled “The Castle,” about an unidentified army battling a dragon. After losing his father in 2024, he made a promise to turn that childhood spark into an expansive speculative universe of stories that explore humanity’s place when confronted with cosmic-scale horrors. When he is not writing, Nik enjoys spending time with his family, photography, and stargazing.
