I was born in 1961 and grew up in Brockway, which is located in rural west-central Pennsylvania. My parents divorced when I was 10. I moved away from home when I was 14 and graduated high school in 1979 . My college career took place at Penn State University. I graduated in 1983 as a University Scholar (now Schreyer Honors College) with aa Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, a 3.41 GPA and about $6,500 in student loan debt. I was also an alcoholic, but didn't admit it until nearly 10 years later. I went to work as a sportswriter at the Courier-Express newspaper and later worked as bureau news manager in Brookville (1987-90) then city editor (19990-2001) and finally managing editor (2001-14). After two DUI convictions and lots of near misses and with life caving in all around me, I found sobriety in 1992 at Valley Hope drug and alcohol rehabilitation in Norton, Kansas. I left the newspaper in 2014 to become the community initiatives coordinator for Varischetti Holdings, LP in Brockway. I enjoy reading, writing golfing and spending time with the family and friends who have enriched my life far more than I deserve. “He Was There All the Time” is my first publishing venture.
