Nick Bunker is the author of In the Shadow of Fear: America and the World in 1950. He won the 2015 George Washington Book Prize with An Empire On The Edge: How Britain Came to Fight America, which was also a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for History. His other books include Making Haste From Babylon, which was long-listed for the UK’s Samuel Johnson Prize, and Young Benjamin Franklin: the Birth of Ingenuity. A graduate of King’s College, Cambridge, and Columbia University, Bunker began his professional career as a newspaper reporter in Liverpool in the 1980s, moved to the Financial Times, and then worked as an investment banker, principally for the HongKong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. For many years he was a board member and then the chair of the Freud Museum, London. A keen mountain walker, he now lives in the English cathedral city of Lincoln.
