Nicholas Freudenberg is Distinguished Professor of Public Health Emeritus at City University of New York. He studies the impact of corporate business and political practices on global health and the environment and the role of activist movements in taking on the social determinants of health. His most recent book is Fighting for New York Activism for Health and Social Justice Since the 1960s (Columbia University Press, 2026), a riveting account of nine NYC activist campaigns of the last 60 years.
