Born in Athens, Greece, I recently retired as 1684 Professor of Music at the University of Cambridge. I've written across an unusually wide range of musical subjects, and for a wide range of readerships: at one end there are academic books like The Schenker project (which won the 2010 Wallace Berry Award of the Society of Music Theory), at the other my Music: A Very Short Introduction, published or forthcoming in 17 languages (and counting). My most recently published book is Music as Creative Practice (2018), which looks at music in light of creativity theory and creativity theory in light of music.
