Nic Scanlan-Dyas grew up in Maidstone in Kent, graduated at East 15 Acting School in Essex, and spent his twenties appearing on the British stage and screen, including for one glorious summer in the New Zealand authored play, Ladies Night. He later retrained in computing and worked for a US based software company during the NASDAQ boom and bust of early 2000, before finding his way into Investment banking in New York and was working at Lehman Brothers just in time for the global financial crisis. He admits the circumstantial evidence is compelling, but he claims that neither event was entirely his fault. However, on the plus side, this unconventional career path makes him probably the only author working today who has been both a stripper and a director at a Wall Street bank. Finally, trailing his New Zealand-born corporate lawyer wife, he moved to Tokyo, where they lived and raised their two daughters for 15 years. Whilst in Tokyo he got all shook up in the great Tohoku earthquake, and wrote and recorded an album, It’s Not About You, and several singles with the band 1Eyedman. He now lives in Auckland, where he's keeping a nervous eye on the volcanoes. He still performs in community theatre, most recently in Shoreside Theatre’s annual Agatha Christie show Spider’s Web, in which, by a remarkable coincidence, he played a middled aged Englishman who was living in Maidstone in Kent, but fortunately for all concerned, he kept his clothes on.
