As a young boy, I was given the nickname bottle cap by my older brothers. I was called this on account I was the milk man's child. The man my mother was married to the father of my brothers, let's say I was not favored by him. We went on a camping trip into the appellation mountains, after setting up camp my so-called father walked me deep into the forest. We stopped at a clearing near a river he handed me a compass and said count to a hundred and make your way back. He left me there in the woods, by myself. I was 6 years old.

I counted to fifty realizing it was getting dark I stopped counting and started running back to camp. It seemed I was being directed by a guiding force the animals also seemed to point the way with strange gestures. I can't explain it you had to be there.

I made it back to camp my parents and siblings were packing the station wagon up as fast as they could. When they saw me walking into camp, they looked at me with disgust. My so-called father and mother made a groaning sound.

After packing I slowly crawled int the station wagon with my brothers, they looked at me with such distain, I could feel it inside my soul.

Needless to say, I never went camping again and spent as much time as I could with my grand parents'. Thank God for grandparents.
