Deborah Childs often dreamed of becoming a writer. The Virginia native bought a business magazine hoping to write but found herself managing the publication more often than writing for it. She sold the magazine in 2006 when the love of her life was unexpectedly diagnosed with cancer. Becoming abruptly introduced to the inner workings of the American medical system, Childs found an observation from her youth when relatives were diagnosed with the disease to be revealed as a shocking truth. She shares her confusing journey to help other caregivers advocate for loved ones with cancer in a flawed medical business system. Though not a story she hoped to tell, her Global Award-winning memoir, A Dose of Reality--Losing William to the Big Business of Cancer in America was first released in 2011 and immediately gained attention in Europe. Heavily quoted in excerpts on a German health website, it was also featured in a popular UK health magazine, What Doctors Don't Tell You in 2013, and distributed throughout Europe. In hopes of reaching more people, she softened the title to Last Promise--Losing My Heart: Finding My Soul. In her second memoir, 'A Spirit in the Doorway,' Childs shares examples of her after-life connection with William, which convincingly demonstrate that life and love never end. She hopes to inspire others to be an open channel for surprising messages that can soften the sting of grief with joyful experiences that never cease to amaze those of us left behind. Childs has since become a ghostwriter to help others author their books.
