J. Pierce Cummings was raised in the United States of America, more specifically, in the state of Louisiana. This led him to attend two of the state's outstanding institutions of higher learning: Northwestern State University and Louisiana State University. He realized at an early age that he wanted to become a writer, and many factors helped to develop that love. Due to academics and job situations, his family enjoyed lengthy summer vacations, taking excursions throughout the continent of North America. These family trips added much to his education that mere books could never convey. He climbed an ice glacier in Canada, panned for gold in Colorado, and danced with the Hopi indians in New Mexico. He sailed the Chesapeak Bay in a ninetenth century schooner, hiked through various mountain ranges, and traversed The Painted Desert. He has a passion for caves and after having acquired a Master Diver certification, he has scuba dived mostly off the coast of Florida in the Gulf of Mexico, now the Gulf of America. Consequently, through his travels, he developed a deep respect for learning as he visited historical museum after historical museum. It was this fascination with cultures and their histories that would eventually lay the foundations for the forming of his characters, their lives, and the methodology of their belief systems. With this wealth of information swelling up within him, the stories began to pour out like water flowing over a waterfall. It took time, however, for him to ease into professional writing. Although his short stories were published in literary magazines, and he has poems published in the anthology of "America's Favorite Poets," he was distracted by other talents and endeavors that toyed with his success. Cummings is a talented artist, a skilled muscician, and a mediocre actor. For a while, he was even a gymnist. After obtaining his Bachelor's degrees in English, Speech, and Theater, he returned to creative writing and earned a diploma from the coveted Long Ridge Writer's Group. After several short stories, he decided to take on the daunting goal of writing a novel. Several chapters into that endeavor, he began to realize that the story within him couldn't be contained in a single novel. Thus, a trilogy was born and the world of Orth took on a new existence spanning races, cultures, and a wealth of characters. As those three books have been completed, Cummings has come to realize that many more stories are even now yearning to be told. The characters of Orth are beating their drums eagerly, awaiting to fill the, as yet, blank pages in the author's mind with their tales of wonder and woe. J. Pierce Cummings advises you, the reader, to wait patiently, and watch expectantly. There is more yet to come.
