I write about organisational politics. More specifically I write about political games, tricks and tactics, not so that you can learn them and do them, but so that you can be forewarned against them and deal with them appropriately. In the same way that on line scams are diminished by awareness, my aims with organisational politics are similar. My work as an author has led me into working with talented people in organisations of all types who want to navigate the political culture and influence with integrity. At a recent event at The London Business School I asked an audience of nearly 300 business people to raise their hand if they thought that a workshop on organisational politics would have been something they would have done earlier in their career, if they could. Almost all hands went up. I then asked them, how many would tell the boss that they were going. All hands came down. It seems we want to learn about this stuff, but have some caution about doing so. With my books, you can read and learn in private. Your boss, and your co-workers will never know that you are becoming more politically savvy. And just to show I don't take all of this too seriously, I have also published a darkly satirical, work based comedy novel called "Office Genocide".
