Mieke Leenders is a freelance writer & journalist, art historian, poet, fiction author, certified vegan ambassador, and social justice advocate. She holds a master’s degree in Art History (2012) and certificates in Teaching English as a Second Language (2018) Editing (2020), Accurate, Audience-Focused Editing (2021), and Cross-Border Journalism (2022). Originally from Belgium, she set out on a 2-year solo backpacking trip in 2016 to explore Asia and Latin America. She lived in Costa Rica for 4 years and is currently residing in Spain. Her professional life has involved more than writing and she has taught languages, worked in hospitality management, and contributed to research projects for universities and government institutions. Next to writing and traveling, Mieke spends her time reading, hiking, experimenting with photography, and volunteering for animal welfare organizations, environmental programs, and educational causes.
