Michael White is the pen name of Chris Ward, the acclaimed author of the science fiction series The Tube Riders as well as several other highly rated novels. As a teenager, playing low quality village cricket in the Cornwall leagues was one of his great loves, and the highlight of his career was taking a wicket with his first ball for Bude First Team in Cornwall League Four, a rank full toss that was somehow bludgeoned to the man waiting at silly mid off. His career has been in decline ever since. For the last twelve years he has been living and working in Nagano, Japan, where he is the "manager" of Nagano Cricket Club.
