Michael is Founder of the 2023 Foundation, a charity to combat antisemitism. He is a veteran of the Australian Army who commemorated thirty years of full-time service in March 2024. His operational experience includes deployments to Timor Leste, Bougainville, Iraq, and two tours of Afghanistan. From July 2019 to September 2021, Michael was seconded to the United Nations in the Middle East. He served as Head of Military, United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation, and resided in Jerusalem with his wife, Dracaena. During this time, his mission area covered Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and Egypt, where he travelled extensively, gaining remarkable insights. For his service on this mission, Michael was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross by the Governor General of Australia in the 2023 Australia Day Honours List. Michael is a graduate of Duntroon and holds a Bachelor of Management from Southern Cross University, a Master of Management, and a Master of Arts from the University of New South Wales. As part of his MBA, Michael studied on exchange at New York University’s Stern School of Business. The events of October 7, 2023, and the October 9, 2023, protest at the Opera House where a baying mob chanted “Gas the Jews … F&:k the Jews, deeply impacted Michael. He would not be a bystander. Michael recognised that Jewish Values = Israeli Values = Western Values. Threats to Israelis and the global Jewish Diaspora have much wider and sinister implications. In July 2024, he founded The 2023 Foundation Ltd, an emerging global not-for-profit company dedicated to combating antisemitism. Michael is motivated to partner and collaborate with those who share his passion and purpose. Together, we will prevail! יחד ננצח Although Michael is not Jewish, he has a deep affinity and abiding respect for the Jewish people. In October 2024, he was made an honorary Life Member of Emanuel Synagogue in Woollahra, Sydney, for services to the Australian Jewish community. Having witnessed firsthand Israel’s remarkable story, Michael is dedicated to ensuring that this story is both seen and heard.
