Michael O. Borthwick has been an automotive mechanic since the seventies, and a Christian since the eighties, but what does that have to do with writing a book? In 2019, cycling consumed the majority of Michael's time — over 9,000 kilometres a year, races included — leaving little room for much else, let alone writing a book. That changed in December 2019, when he came down with an illness doctors couldn't identify at the time, now understood as long COVID. Its physical limitations ended his cycling and still affect his health today. But Michael didn't let these new limitations diminish his drive in life; instead, he redirected his focus to helping others going through difficult situations.

When a couple he knew was facing serious health issues, Michael shared part of his story with them — how his walk with God had always brought him comfort and peace in difficult times. That conversation led to writing his book, "A Mechanic's Handbook To The God Of The Bible — Why God Just Makes Sense."

As a mechanic, Michael was taught to think systematically — and since God's word is laid out systematically in the Bible, he uses those same skills, along with his way with words and stories, to lay out biblical truths and make Scripture easy to understand.

His writing also addresses practical life issues like unforgiveness, past hurts, and trust issues — struggles Michael himself only found resolved through a relationship with God. His life story shows a man living on the edge; his book recounts how God intervened before he could fall off.
