Michael Current, trail name Energizer, is a retired U.S. Army Colonel, having served for over thirty years in the military, half of which was overseas, including two combat tours and two peace-keeping missions. Mike’s formal education includes a bachelor’s degree and three master’s degrees. Following military retirement, Mike opened two small businesses, one in Florida and the other in Nevada. But after a few years, he sold both, as they took time away from pursuing personal interests, like hiking. Mike thru-hiked the PCT in 2020, the AT in 2022, the CDT in 2024, and the AT again in 2025. He vlogged, or video journaled, his experiences on his YouTube channel, Old Man and the PCT, AT, and CDT respectively. Besides hiking, Mike enjoys traveling the country in his RV or sailing in his Tayana 37, named Wandrin’ Currents, which he keeps on the Chesapeake Bay. Mike and his bride of over forty years, Jean, live in northern Nevada, with their adult children and extended family.
