Michael Augustyn is the author of the historical novel, Vlad Dracula, The Dragon Prince, and the comtemporary novel, alieNation, as well as a novella for young readers, Mantle of The Warrior. His historical novel is the first in English on the subject of the real Dracula, Vlad Tepes. While a work of fiction, it follows the history of Vlad's life and times very closely, including the historical origin of his vampire personna. Aside from editions in English, it is published in Italy, Poland, China, and Vietnam, through the representation of Judy Klein of Kleinworks Agency. Mantle of The Warrior is the tale of a younger generation claiming a legacy of peace after a bitter war. While the violence of war is muted in the story, it depicts the inevitable loss and deprivation of all armed conflicts. For the main character, Lipi, and her young friends, the tragedy spurs them to self-empowerment and a resolve to work for a lasting peace. His latest novel, alieNation, is set against a backdrop of Cold War espionage. The main character, Greg, is shocked to learn that his parents are Soviet spies. When their cover is blown, he is unknowingly taken on their retreat to Soviet Russia. On his quest to return to the only life he knows, he comes of age against a backdrop of espionage and "dirty" politics. The novel is based on the author's own experiences and those of family and friends who lived in the Soviet Union, as well as contemporary history.
