Maxim Smith has been the beta tester for an alternative to college called "The Preparation" for the last two years. The Preparation, as a program, was designed by Doug Casey and Maxim's father (Matt Smith). Over the last two years, Maxim has been taking the ideas in The Preparation book and putting them to practice. Since starting, he's done everything from becoming an EMT, worked long night shifts on wildfires, sailed around the Falkland Islands and through the Strait of Magellan, learned to pack mules/horses into the Colorado backcountry, learned to fly planes, hiked through the hot desert of Nevada while working on a geophysics crew; become a competent chess player, and a Spanish speaker.
