Matt Basanisi, born in 1966, grew up as the child of a German mother and an Italian father on Lake Constance in Switzerland. Basanisi is a trained police officer and criminologist. Following a military assignment for the Swiss army in the Kosovo war at the turn of the millennium, Basanisi joined the Organised Crime Division of the Swiss Federal Criminal Police, then in 2005 the Internal Investigation Service of the United Nations. In addition to writing, Matt Basanisi is a consultant for broadcasting companies in the field of digital piracy.
