Mary Roys has always loved reading stories to children and listening to the wonderful stories they tell. She has a passion for instilling values and fostering learning dispositions in children. Mary’s daughters, who love to draw and doodle dinosaurs, first inspired her to write children’s stories. Her interests inspired her to pursue a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and a master’s degree in childhood studies. For over 20 years, Mary has worked with children across diverse cultures and contexts, including homeschooling, managing her private childcare service, primary and preschool teaching, and early years practice. Mary Roys, a mother of seven children, lives with her husband Séan and their family in Limerick, Ireland. Mary Roys and Leila Elgersma are sisters. They have partnered as an author and illustrator team to pursue their shared dream of creating picture books for young children that are fun, playful and filled with cute dinosaurs and animals. Leila and Mary are first and foremost mothers who want children to enjoy the stories that they co-create in ML Book Corner while also gaining social skills, emotional awareness and learning family values. Each story created by Mary and Leila promotes dispositions for learning to support children’s ongoing development.
