Mary Anne was born in Mercedes, Texas, and has called Georgia home for most of her life. A lifelong mystery lover, she was inspired by authors such as Agatha Christie, Anne Perry, Caroline Graham, and Elizabeth Peters to finally listen to the characters occupying her imagination and give them mysteries of their own to solve.

Her Charlie McClung Mysteries combine traditional whodunits, police procedure, a touch of romance, and the atmosphere of small-town Georgia in the 1980s. The series began with Brilliant Disguise, a mystery inspired by a tragedy in Mary Anne’s own family and the unanswered questions that remained long afterward.

Research is an important part of Mary Anne’s writing. She digs into police procedures, investigative techniques, and the everyday details of the 1980s, and has consulted law-enforcement professionals along the way. The result is the kind of mystery she enjoys reading herself—clean but gritty, filled with twists and red herrings, and populated by characters readers can come to know as old friends.

Away from murder and mayhem, Mary Anne firmly believes age is just a number. She has been known to hitch a ride on a shopping cart and dance whenever the mood strikes. That same love of life has a habit of finding its way into her characters—especially Marian, the spirited woman who captures the heart of Detective Charlie McClung.

Mary Anne lives in Canton, Georgia, with her husband and their ill-tempered tuxedo cat, Gertrude, who remains thoroughly unimpressed by the fact that there are now nine Charlie McClung mysteries.
