Mark John Maguire was born in Liverpool and was educated at the universities of Manchester, Swansea and Mid-Glamorgan, where he studied history, philosophy, and intellectual and art history (M.A.) He has lived and worked throughout Europe as a barman, labourer, soldier, aircraft sealer, trade marks examiner, ministerial adviser, Head of International Relations at the Welsh Office, and Principal Private Secretary to the Presiding Officer of the National Assembly for Wales. He is a well-known artist, whose vibrant, metaphysical paintings - frequently conveying scenes of contemporary urban realism in a ruined or detached landscape - are owned by collectors around the world. His youtube channel, 'They Got Away With Murder' - researched, written, illustrated, presented and narrated by himself - is highly regarded by aficionados of the True Crime genre for its insight and analysis. The Night Traveller (MJ Maguire) was his first novel, published in 2010, and he has published and recorded poems in numerous publications and online sources. He regularly publishes articles in journals on a diverse range of subjects, from international affairs, to ethics and metaphysics.
