Mark Hunter writes contemporary literary fiction with a punk rock spine and a bruised heart. His novels focus on disillusioned characters, small-town claustrophobia, and the strange, slow-burning tragedy of growing up when you'd rather not. Influenced by the deadpan humor of Vonnegut, the raw honesty of Bukowski, and the observational bite of stand-up comics like George Carlin and Bill Hicks, Hunter’s work blends dark comedy with existential dread—and still finds time for a love letter or two to baseball and cassette tapes. His stories are built on character first, not plot twists—deep dives into flawed, self-aware misfits who try to muscle through life with sarcasm and cynicism, but sometimes still hope for something better. His voice is spare, self-aware, and emotionally grounded, with a keen eye for the absurdities baked into everyday life. Think coming-of-age... long after you're supposed to be done coming of age. Mark lives in Indianapolis with his wife Ashley and their dog Layla. When he's not writing or working in tech, he’s lifting weights, watching Detroit Tigers baseball, or spiraling into yet another hyperfixation on music, maps, or memory. He was born in Pontiac, Michigan, on February 12, 1979, and like many people born in Pontiac, he still doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing—but at least he’s writing it down.
