Mark Fallon is an internationally recognized authority on science-based effective interviewing, counterterrorism, and national security. A former Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) special agent and member of the U.S. Senior Executive Service, he spent more than three decades leading complex criminal, counterintelligence, and counterterrorism investigations and operations, including the investigation of the USS Cole bombing and senior leadership roles in the government's post-9/11 terrorism investigations. He is the author of Unjustifiable Means: The Inside Story of How the CIA, Pentagon, and U.S. Government Conspired to Torture, a critically acclaimed insider's account of America's post-9/11 interrogation program. He is also co-editor of Interrogation and Torture: Integrating Efficacy with Law and Morality (Oxford University Press) and Interviewing and Interrogation: A Review of Research and Practice Since World War II (TOAP), and has contributed chapters and articles to numerous books and publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, Newsweek, Psychology Today, Police Chief, Just Security, SpyTalk, The Psychology of Criminal Investigation and International Handbook of Police Crisis and Emergencies. Today, Fallon is Director of ClubFed, LLC, a strategic consultancy specializing in science-based interviewing, leadership, ethics, and national security. He serves on the Advisory Council of the Center for Ethics and the Rule of Law at the University of Pennsylvania and on the Steering Committee for the Méndez Principles on Effective Interviewing. His work has been featured in documentaries including Leaving Hotel California, Turning Point: 9/11 and the War on Terror, The Interrogation Tapes, Eminent Monsters, and National Geographic productions, where he continues to advocate for lawful, ethical, and effective interviewing practices grounded in law, science and ethics. He consults as an interrogation and police practice expert, and guest lectures and gives talks on the tradecraft of effective interviewing, and ethical leadership.
